Our newsletter is emailed to members before each meeting to notify members of the scheduled speakers, upcoming orchid shows and other society activities.


Meeting Program for 2024

Meetings are held in the basement hall of St. Joseph's Church at the corner of Courtland and Madison in Kitchener on the fourth Monday (unless pre-empted, see the program dates below).

Meetings begin promptly at 7:00pm; arrive from 6:30pm for social time and sales. Free parking is at the rear of the school; the entrances are off Madison or Cedar. Guests are welcome.

Meeting dates are listed below with the programme, usually a guest speaker or slide show.

January 22 Robert Vanderheyden will discuss growing orchids in a grow tent from set up to maintenance.
February 26 Andrew Geimar of Roehampton Orchids topic is "Jewel Orchids at Home, a Story of Murder”, he will talk about his journey of growing (and killing) jewel orchids, and how that shaped his attitude towards jewels.
March 25 Jay Norris, founder of Ravenvision, will be doing a talk full of fabulous photos on the incredible orchids he saw at the World Orchid Conference in Taiwan a month ago! Jay is a fabulous photographer and is an accredited AOS judge. This is a talk you will not want to miss!
April 22 Inge and Peter Poot will be talking about organic pest control.

The Wildlife of Socotra: Jewel of Yemen
Among serious plant enthusiasts, the island of Socotra, in the Arabian Sea, is legendary for its botanical treasures. Horticulturist and World Traveler Dan Doucette has been dreaming about visiting this otherworldly island for over a decade and that dream finally came true in February 2023. Dan spent two weeks on the island on a private tour. He visited many well known sites and also more remote areas in the Haggier mountains during a 6 day camel trek. Join Dan as he shares his stories and photos from this shining jewel of Yemen.

November 25 Our Christmas party, games (to join bring small, wrapped gift to $10), silent auction and pot luck dinner. Please bring your own dishes, cutlery and glassware. A punch, coffee and tea will be provided. You are welcome to bring wine if you wish. Doors Open at 6:30 p.m. Eat at 7 p.m.
December No meeting.
